Iran's Economy

It is difficult to assess how individuals are doing financially these days. But the main indicators show that the Iranian economy is in a nose dive. Soon, there'll be shortages of basic items as the regime's power to purchase is dwindling. The recent wave of sanctions have had a devastating affect on Iran's currency as well. For instance, one US dollar is now equal to 20,000 Rial (Rial is Iran's official currency). A few months ago, a US dollar was around 11,000 Rial. (Every 10 Rial is 1 Toman which means a US dollar is around 2000 Toman). Technically Rial has lost more than 25% of its value in the past 2 weeks. An economic crash is all but inevitable in Iran now.

Obviously these new sanctions are crippling Iran's economy. Will it stop the regime's drive to acquire nuclear weapons? No. So what should be done? Frankly, nothing short of regime change in Iran will stop that. Sanctions or no sanctions, pre-emptive strikes or no strikes, diplomacy or isolation, none will work with these thugs.

A peaceful regime change in Iran will put an end to the current state of affairs. Put the Iranian people out of their misery by ending this brutal regime's life please.

I have a question on this latest bizarre piece of news given that Iran is essentially a police state now: The Iranian regime is able to capture the so-called "CIA" spies left and right, yet it is unable to stop nuke scientist killers?

Doesn't make sense to me. One explanation could be the regime's desire to create fake crises while under pressure from within and outside.

The Iranian regime is certainly playing chicken with the fragile world economy while its own economy is in a downward spiral. An Iranian parliament official says 200 billion dollars needed to keep the unemployment rate steady:

"To keep the current unemployment rate steady some $200 billion should be invested to create one million jobs annually, the Iranian vice Majlis speaker said."That is almost a quarter of Iran's 818 billion dollar GDP. Of course they don't have an extra 200 billion dollars. The crazies in Tehran are spending the country's resources on nuclear program, weaponry and funding terrorism world wide.

The US Republican primary season is in full swing and the race to select the next GOP candidate is going on in Iowa, New Hampshire and elsewhere south of the border. I am not an American and I probably have no say in who will be the nominee. However, I'd like a strong America and an America that stands up for the oppressed. An America that kicks butt is what I want. So any GOP candidate that will stand up for America, kick Obama out of the White House and would vow to spread American values around the world is my kinda guy. On that note, any one of the GOP candidate with the exception of the neo-nazi sympathizer Ron Paul and boring liberal dude Huntsman could possibly achieve those goals. My bet is on Mitt Romney and to a degree on ex-Speaker Gingrich, even though I love ex-Senator Santorum because he is really capable of doing what a great US leader should do vis a vis foreign policy and fortunately he has an impressive knowledge of Iran and its issues.

I have to get this off my chest now and it is about that idiot 'blame America first' Ron Paul. For one thing, the demented loser Ron Paul is not worthy of my time or this blog's space. However as an Iranian I would like to encourage my American readers and friends not to vote for this strange man. He is the Iranian regime's favorite politician in Washington DC. His weird views on Iran are very close to that of anti-American idiots like Noam Chomsky, Islamofascists and Dennis Kucinich. The weirdo congressman believes and says that the United States is the reason behind the Iranian regime's animosity towards the west, which is absolutely false and irresponsible. The current Iranian regime seized power in 1979, vowing to crush the United States and other western powers. Its animosity towards the US and other western countries has nothing to do with what the US had allegedly done in Iran in previous decades. Of course, facts are not what 'Dr. Demento' Ron Paul or his cult followers are interested in. So I am not going to waste my time here bringing up facts and historical data to argue against their talking points since it is pointless. I don't engage cult members in any type of argument. He and his followers are either blind to reality and simple facts or are simple-minded leftist/fascists who hate their own country. I don't get it, but that is how it comes across.

I know, I know. He has no chance at all in a presidential race and people are worrying too much. Gov. Huckabee won by a large margin Iowa in 2008 and Sen. McCain came in 4th and yet Huckabee lost in other primaries and fizzled out. So we all know that this kook Paul has no chance beyond Iowa. This is an extraordinary time. The United States needs to send a clear message to the Iranian people who are yearning for change. Giving anti-American losers like Paul a podium to defend the thugs in Tehran is exactly the wrong message. Interestingly enough, he was the only congressman to vote against a measure in the US Congress to condemn the Iranian regime's brutal crackdown of protesters in 2009-2010. His reasoning for Iran's drive to acquire nuclear weapons is just mind-boggling and crazy.

If you support pro-democracy activists in Iran and elsewhere, your vote for a responsible and mainstream candidate in this primary race would go a long way. The oppressed people of the world look at the United States of America as a beacon of freedom and hope. We in Iran did not expect the Swedes, Spaniards, Japanese, French or Dutch to lend us the ultimate moral support we desperately need. Of course their assistance is greatly appreciated but it is not the deciding factor in our battle against tyranny. We look upon America and its honorable people to assist us in winning our battles. It is what it really is. American support goes a lot further along the way than say the support we have got from the Europeans (who by the way have been trading with the regime for 30 yrs).

Consider voting for any one but the deranged anti-American congressman from Texas. Your vote for a responsible and mainstream Republican candidate is truly appreciated. Get Obama out of the White House next year and elect a real leader please.

Not a great way to end 2011 with the death of two anti-tyranny figures: Christopher Hitchens and Vaclav Havel. Mr. Hitchens died last week, and former anti-Communist Czech Republic's leader "Vaclav Havel" died yesterday. He was a great hero and an inspiring figure. Both had dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of evil and tyranny. We mourn their passing. [+]

But by the same token, 2011 saw the death of tyrants and thugs also: Bin Laden, Libyan dictator Qadaffi and now North Korea's Kim Jong-il. I hope more tyrants are on the death list in 2012.

Christopher Hitchens has passed away. I often voiced my humble yet dissenting opinion here on this blog about pieces he'd written on Iran, Israel or other foreign policy issues. I liked his sense of resistance to tyranny and religious fascism. I am so sad about his passing and I can't believe it. You'd think bad things shouldn't happen to heroes and good men but it does. So very sad since last night.

My little blog was once honored by Christopher Hitchens on his old webpage during the Muhammed Cartoons controversy in March 2006. I emailed him a few photos I had taken during the pro-Denmark protests in Toronto and he graciously linked them on his website.

I am terribly sorry to hear about his passing and would like to send my sincere condolences to his family and friends. It is a crushing loss for the world...

The old and new media are full of chatter about the possible US or Israeli air strikes against the Iranian regime's nuclear weapons facilities. So far, most of the commentary has focused solely on delaying or destroying the clerical regime's weapons facilities. Not a single word or any mention of what would happen if the regime's leadership is left intact after these air strikes.

This piece on Real Clear World website has been the only one I have seen that has addressed what the real objective of any military action should be:

Currently I am traveling in the US and thus don't have much to blog. Though I heard about the Iranian regime's plot to kill the Israeli and Saudi ambassadors to the United States.

No one should be shocked or surprised that the Iranian regime has plotted to cause mayhem and death in the heart of United States. Those who say this is brazen should look no further than the Iranian regime's attack on the US Marines barracks in Lebanon, their bombing of Argentinian Jewish Center in 1990s or their bombing of Khobar towers in Saudi Arabia. This is the Iranian government at its normal state. Islamic Republic is not a regular nation-state with genuine geopolitical ambitions or interests. It is driven by a mad ideology and was built on the hatred of Israel and America. So for pundits to claim this is brazen is ridiculous and stupid. Certainly they and the US government are ignorant when it comes to how the Iranian regime functions or thinks.

Hopefully this will be a wake up call to the policy makers in the western world. We're dealing with a suicidal regime that will stop at nothing short of destruction of the United States and Israel. A democratic regime change in Iran will put an end to this.

In light of recent revelations about Bank Melli's involvement in regime's nuclear weapons program and its bankrolling of terror organizations like Hamas, it is a matter of national security for PM Harper's government to arrest this man and question him.

10 Years Later...

Today is the 10th anniversary of the September 11th. terrorist attacks. It is a sad day. It is a tragic day. Looking back, I can't believe how much the world has changed and how much 9/11 has impacted our lives in unique ways.

But beyond all that, it is important to remember the innocent people who died on that awful day. Today is about the firemen who climbed the WTC stairs to rescue their fellow human beings trapped in a collapsing building. It is about the New York City police officers who rushed to help their fellow citizens. Those first responders were in a way like the soldiers who landed on the beaches of Normandy knowing they are going to die but they did it any way. It is beyond me to try to describe it. It is courageous and it is uniquely American. I salute them all and my thoughts are with the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

It's safe to say that Obama has been the most gutless, the most clueless of modern US presidents since Jimmy Carter.

Saudis recalling their ambassador from Syria while Obama went on to play golf right after the recent financial downgrade of American credit ratings. He has done nothing to stop the massacre in Syria or to finish the mission in Libya. Will he deserve to be re-elected in 2012? I hope not. I hope he suffers a devastating defeat in the upcoming elections next year.

So it turns out that a 40 yr old "college kid" based in the US has been posting as a lesbian blogger from Syria. I am not going to say much about this idiot. However, let me tell you why I am concerned. First, I write under a pen name, albeit from the safety of a free country as well. Acts like this put question marks on legitimate blogs like mine and those blogs whose writers put their lives on the line in Iran, Syria... etc to bring to our attention the horrors of tyranny and oppression. Second of all, this does not advance the cause of freedom and democracy in Syria or else where. It sets it back merely because it is a hoax and people do not like being lied to.

Aside from the fact that the blogger in question was an Anti-American liar, this does not bode well for legitimate bloggers in real danger zones.

How bad should it get?

On Twitter I challenged the US State Dept's USAdarFarsi to help us, Iranian people, change the regime instead of issuing useless, irrelevant statements and tweets. I wrote: "Regime change is the only solution for the Iranian troubles. Instead of issuing statements, assist us in changing the regime." As if the regime will behave better if they issue forceful statements. I have said before that they are a waste of time and money in these bad economic times. Any how, here is what they wrote back:
It reads: "It is up to the Iranian people alone to decide about the future of their country."

Well, tell that to the Germans, Japanese, Poles, Iraqis, Afghans and now the people of Libya.

Who knows how bad regime has to be before something is done to prevent further disaster. Should it be like Syria and Libya before anything is done? Apparently that, on top of killing allied troops, aiding Syrian regime to kill its people, aiding Hezbollah and Hamas to kill Israelis, murdering its own opponents, building WMDs, aiding al-Qaeda to kill innocent people on 9/11 may not be enough. And now the regime might be only couple of months away from a working nuclear bomb while it refuses to negotiate over its nuclear program.

How bad should the Iranian regime be to warrant a crushing response from the US? Well, my hunch is that Obama and his inexperienced, confused and naive team of experts don't get it and don't care. It's a disgraceful behavior for a country that "used to" stand up for liberty and dignity of human beings around the world until this buffoon came to office in 2009. Shameful!

The Iranian regime is imploding, the brave Syrian people have been fighting for their rights for weeks. Guess What's the foreign policy arm of the United States, aka the State Dept, doing to help facilitate positive change?

They're twitting and facebooking it. I have been active on the twitterverse for years now and have been following the State Dept's feeds on facebook and twitter since they came out a little while ago. There's nothing useful about what they do. It is a waste of time and money. They're basically copy-pasting whatever me and you can find on mainstream media or Persian language media outlets.

What they should be doing is to help link the Iranians inside of Iran to each other, not copy-pasting stupid stuff about what someone in the halls of the State department might have said about the situation in Iran. I guess I am expecting too much from an incompetent and highly partisan group of people in the US State Dept. As long as Obama is in office, there will not be reliable support for the dissidents in Iran, Syria or Libya. These guys in the White House and else where are bunch of inexperienced nitwits who can not tell right from wrong.

The stakes are too high to vote for any body else this time around. Prime Minister Harper has stood for what's right. He has been a great leader and an outstanding defender of stability, liberty and prosperity in Canada and abroad.

Prime Minister Harper was among the very first western leaders to denounce the post-election violence perpetrated against the protesters in Iran. Way before Obama or others did, of course.

Remember that other parties, especially the Liberals, have always been appeasing the Islamic regime of Iran. A vote for the Liberal party is a vote for appeasement of the Iranian dictatorship. A Conservative majority led by Stephen Harper can do a lot more to advance the cause of liberty and democracy in Iran and else where. He'll have a greater mandate and more freedom to do what is right. So again, I'd like to urge you, if you are a Canadian reader, to consider voting for your Conservative party candidate.

As much as I am uncertain about the goals of the current armed intervention in Libya, I'd like to see the Libyan "mad dog" overthrown. In principle, I am not against the military action against despots and I am on board with the noble notion of humanitarian intervention. But this one, thanks to a clueless rudderless American president, does not have clear objectives and therefore is going to be a waste of time, money and personnel.

I have been reading President Reagan's autobiography "an American life" as this past February marked Reagan's 100th birthday. I have watched so many documentaries about him and had read others' account of his life and time in government, but had read little or nothing by him. So this was an eye opener. A man from humble beginning rose to become the 40th US president. It is an inspiring life story. Frankly, I believe President Reagan is probably among the top three great presidents of the 20th century and probably among the top 5 in the US history. Now I was just reading chapter 48 of the book in which he discusses the issue of Libya and Qaddafi's support for international terrorism. On page 292 I came across this paragraph:

Our Plight

I spoke with a close friend of mine in Tehran today. She told me that these scattered protests won't free them. She complained about lack of leadership and lack of foreign support. I was told how the society has transformed into a scary 'police state' where any anti-regime activity can be extremely risky. My friend was worried that these leader-less protests are not effective enough to bring about change. She wanted me to write here that the people of Iran demand robust backing from the free world.

Today the German foreign minister met with the regime's leadership to bow to them, to thank them for releasing the German citizens held in Iran. And the meeting took place exactly during the anti-regime protests across the country. These backroom dealings, stabbing the Iranian people and bowing to their oppressors has one and only one affect on the psyche of the Iranian people: "The western governments, especially Europeans, do not care about your plight."

That the Europeans don't give a damn to oppressed people of the world is nothing new. They're bunch of selfish old colonialist socialist morons. Though I want them to stop pretending to care.

Diarrhea reformists

The word reformist in the Persian language is "eslah-talab" and diarrhea is translated to "ecehal" and mixing these two together would be 'ecehal-talab' which loosely means 'pro-diarrhea' or something like that.

Now why diarrhea? Because the majority of the Iranian people see these 'regime reformists' as who they truly are. They see them as bunch of self-serving jackasses whose primary goal is to protect the foundation of the current Islamic establishment. And just like diarrhea and vomit, these reformists are thrown up by the regime to provide a newer gentler face for them.

The biggest regime oriented reformist party 'Mosharekat' (which was once run by the brother of former president Khatami) has issued a statement calling for preservation of the Islamic Republic and return to the 'golden' days of Ayatollah Khomeini's rule:

"The Greens are led by the spirit of the Revolution, which is unyielding adherence to the constitution in order to achieve national accord."

Last time I checked, the spirit of their revolution has killed thousands upon thousands of dissidents. And last time I checked, their revolutionary spirit kills one person every 8 hours.
Frankly, I don't want to be part of the regime preserving green movement and their 'ecehal-talab' agenda. And I sure hope the regime reformists fail because their agenda is not what Neda and Sohrab died for.

The Iranian regime has gone on a killing spree getting rid of dissidents and unwanted elements in the opposition camp. Due to the ongoing crisis in Egypt, no one is paying much attention to this issue in Iran, unfortunately. It must be our task, as bloggers and free individuals, to bring awareness to the plight of the dissidents who are on death row in Iran.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the green movement leaders have condemned the ongoing slaughter of prisoners and dissidents. But would that be enough to catch the attention of the world? I doubt that. More needs to be done to stop the regime from executing innocent people whose crimes are speaking up against the Islamic regime of Iran. According to the UN's report the regime has executed about 66 individuals since the beginning of 2011. Most have been charged with phony crimes and later executed by hanging in prisons. The ongoing conflict in Egypt should not divert our attention from Iran. The Iranian regime is the head of the snake that must be crushed, and the pressure must remain on them.

I do not like Hosni Mubarak very much but I do not trust the Egyptian opposition either. A quick look at the opponents of Mubarak around the world - not to mention Hamas militants - determines the side I want to be on right now and unfortunately, I'd like to be on Mubarak's side. An Egypt ruled by the likes of 'Muslim Brotherhood' thugs and dingbats like Elbaradei can not be in anyone's interests unless you want a permanent state of war between Israel and her neighbors.

At the same time, average Egyptians have reservations about Elbaradei and his minions. It makes you think twice before throwing the towel and declare Mubarak a goner. My prediction is that Mubarak will be able to survive this crisis and he'll succeed in naming a trusted successor and allow for a free election. I hope the Egyptian people understand the lessons of the Iranian revolution and avoid doing to their country what the Iranians did to Iran in 1979. Mubarak is bad, but Sharia laws and Muslim Brotherhood jihadism is worse. I certainly hope they understand the stakes.

As Egypt is going through turmoil and revolt, Obama is facing his own "Jimmy Carter moment" 31 yrs later. The crises in Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon and Iran have made Obama look like an incompetent and clueless man.

The problem is that the crisis in Egypt might even allow the radical Islamist groups like Muslim Brotherhood to do to Egypt what Khomeinists did to Iran back in 1979-1980. The Iranian regime at the same time seems to be vocal about its support for the ongoing crisis in Egypt. I am of the belief that the Iranian regime might very well be behind this. The ramifications are so great that it can't be ignored. What happens to Israel if the Egypt, Yemen, Lebanon et al are taken over by openly anti-Israeli movements? It is scary to realize that the guy (the leader of the free world) in the White House is a clueless man with no leadership skills or crisis management skills.

First off, it is truly embarrassing to see fellow countrymen (Iranian nationals) smuggling opium into Canada. They give all of us a bad name and reputation. Secondly, I think it is just absolutely hilarious that the law enforcement officials in Canada came up with the name 'Project Khiar' for their drug busting operation. Very clever!

It is widely known/believed that drug markets inside of Iran are run by the regime as a way of curbing the youth's energy and reducing the masses to bunch of drug addicts so they won't be able to rise against the mullahs. I know this sounds a bit off the mark, however that will be somewhat interesting to investigate any possible links these alleged criminals might have with the current government of Iran.

During the press conference in Toronto a police officer said that the smuggling was done by "a very sophisticated criminal organization." The whole things sounds fishy to me. Of course, we won't probably know the full extent of the investigation and the conclusions any time soon. It may not even be sanctioned by the Iranian regime, but it is a question I considered to ask. It will be really interesting to investigate any possible links the suspects might have had with the Iranian regime in the past. Were any money sent back to Iran? If yes, to whom and how and how much? How did they ship these items through IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps) controlled sea ports? As we know, air and sea ports in Iran are run and monitored very closely by the revolutionary guards. For a regime that constantly claims to be combating drug trafficking this must be embarrassing to see that its ports were used to smuggle drugs to N. America. And 20 million US dollars is a lot of money for a cash strapped regime that is suffering under sanctions.

At this day and age, nothing should be ignored or be off the mark in my opinion. I'd really be curious to figure out what these suspects have been up to for the past few years. Nothing crazy or conspiratorial but my usual 2 cents!

I am terribly saddened to hear the sad news of prince Alireza Pahlavi's passing. He was the younger brother of crown prince.

I can't even imagine the sadness, pain and sorrow that the Pahlavi royal family must be going through at this point. My heart goes out to Empress Farah Pahlavi. She has gone through so much in the past 30 years and I really hope she can cope with this devastating loss.

A crippled regime?

It's apparent that the ongoing sanctions regime against the Iranian government is excruciatingly painful. Ironically, the Lebanese newspaper 'Daily Times' reported that "Iran has been forced to slash aid to the Lebanese Hezbollah because Tehran is being squeezed by international sanctions." It is simply evident that the regime is under tremendous stress to survive.

Talking to a relative who lives in a small town somewhere in Iran, I was informed about how much the locals have grown to hate Ahmadinejad and the rest of the government. I was told this new move could be a way of punishing ordinary people who took to the streets in 2009 to protest the rigged presidential elections. This relative of mine was telling me how people feel betrayed by the very man who had promised every one wealth, prosperity and food. I was told about the presence of police forces around financial center of the town to deal with any possible protests or tension that might arise from the economic overhaul that the regime has begun to implement.

The recent cuts to subsidies have created an atmosphere of bitterness and resentment (that existed before but now it is multiplied) towards the ruling theocrats among those who support the regime and those who have always opposed it. Personally, I see this as a positive sign. Those who support the regime mostly live in small towns and villages while urban centers and major cities are where opposition and reform minded people tend to live. This new economic overhaul plan to cut subsidies will turn the once pro-Ahmadinejad crowds to anti-regime, pro-change individuals as the situation get worse every day.

The leaders of the 'green movement' has also slammed the current government for implementing these drastic measures:

"The country is faced with severe international sanctions, the economy is stagnating, unemployment of higher than 30 percent has spread across the country, and inflation is running wild"This couldn't be further from the truth. Prices have soared sky high while the income levels and salaries have stagnated and decreased. All in all, these developments show a crippled regime on the verge of financial bankruptcy. Nuclear weaponry, terror financing and arms building are expensive stuff and petro-dollars to sustain their crazy adventures are hard to come by due to the ongoing international sanctions. The Iranian people deserve better than this but won't be able to finish the job on their own. We need help and we need it now. A small nudge can tip the balance in our favor.

Canada leads the world again by example. This time it is leading everyone else against the despotic regime of Iran. Who knew Canada would become a bullhorn for those who couldn't be heard before? It makes me proud to be part of this country. A country that stands up for moral clarity and honorable western values.

Prime Minister Harper's wife Mrs. Lauren Harper has stood again and again for the right of the oppressed Iranian women. And Minister Jason Kenney has indicated that Canada will not attend the "hatefest" at that toothless organization known as the United Nations. You know, I am not surprised. Canada is led by a good man with values and courage to stand up for what's right. It's heart warming to see that this country leads by example.

It is time to thank the Canadian government for what they've done for the good guys and dissidents worldwide. It is time to send our gratitude to the Prime Minister Harper's office and tell him how much we appreciate his work.

So, today the tiny African country of "Gambia" suspends all diplomatic and economic relations with the regime. I am shocked! Isn't it pathetic that a tiny African country with virtually no serious global power or outreach can do what the rest of world is unwilling to do?

Yesterday I had the honor and privilege of meeting with HRH Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi of Iran during an exclusive session His Highness had held in town to speak with the expat community leaders and young professionals in order to brief us all on the progress of his new initiative: Iran Democratic Union.

Briefly, his plan is to set up an umbrella forum where all Iranian political groups that oppose the Iranian regime can gather and direct their campaign through such forum. The "Iran Democratic Union" will provide resources and leadership to the participating groups in the forum and will act as the leading network. 'IDU' will provide necessary support and tools to all parties or individuals that adhere to the principles of secular democracy. As stated in IDU's platform:

"The Iran Democratic Union (IDU) works for a free and democratic Iran that honors the human rights of its citizens. The projects we fund and/or sponsor serve the goal of supporting human rights, open communications, and promoting honest government."

Reza Pahlavi's main point was this (I am trying to paraphrase): Our recent history has shown that the Iranian society goes through turbulence and change every 30-35 yrs. The people seem to reject those ideas or actions that they felt they were not asked to participate in. Therefore, it is necessary to build the foundation of a much needed social change as such that the people feel they have had the chance to be participating in building that common project. If it is a collective effort, they won't kick the can 35 years down the road. This is going to be slow and painful but a necessary method to achieve profound and ever lasting change.

The issue right now is not to fight over the type of the future government, rather it is how to enable those inside of Iran to maintain their resistance and provide them with global support they deserve. Prince Reza Pahlavi mentioned that due to enormous oppression the regime has asserted over the society after the 2009 anti-regime rallies, the movement needs greater support from outside of Iran and IDU will work to provide that assistance. The other project that he has focused on is to help stranded Iranian political refugees in various countries reach safe harbors in western countries so they can continue the fight against the regime from the safety of those free countries. (His recent letter to the Greek prime minister helped elevate the condition of several Iranian refugees).

Prince Reza says he realizes the urgency of the situation inside of Iran and is willing to do whatever it takes to help bring about positive change. On top of that, HRH Reza Pahlavi understands that the clock is ticking and the international community will not wait for the regime to acquire nuclear weapons and as such, this makes our work even more critical. He believes the costs of a military strike against Iran is so high and unpredictable that it must be avoided. "The Iranian people are the west's best allies in defeating the regime" he said.

Prince Reza (shahzadeh) met with a few young activists who have recently left Iran and was briefed on what is going on inside of the country and took questions (and often sharp criticism) from the individuals present in the session.

Apparently, Republicans are now in control of the House of Representatives and gained precious Senate seats that can be helpful in stopping Obama and his destructive socialist agenda. Obama's spending agenda is now temporarily halted while the next move should be to kick him out of office in 2012.

7:31pm ET: The hall is packed. Not every one is seated yet, but it is certainly crowded here. Lots of people are holding Mark Steyn's amazing book "America Alone" for him to sign after his much anticipated speech. Lots of media here.

7:50 pm ET: Andrew Lawtown the organizer of the event is now introducing Mark Steyn and setting the ground rules. People have come as far away as California, Michigan and Toronto.

Mark Steyn has just begun speaking and the crowds are bursting in laughter as he cracks jokes about the state of free speech in Canada.

Mark is now talking about the Jon Stewart's rally for sanity in Washington DC and says Cat Stevens gets no controversy for his outrageous beliefs but a conservative gets a different treatment from the mainstream media.

Mark: I am a human rights activist that is out there to destroy the "Canadian Human Rights Commission".

FUN SURPRISE: We have a bit of interruption here. No interruption. Just a funny surprise... A dominatrix is on the stage (part of the play) and is exchanging with Mark. Oh no, we have an Imam here from Riyadh speaking at the shariapolooza... LOL! So Mark directed them how to find their way to the Sexapolooza and the Shariapolooza. Pics:

Mark now resumes his speech talking about the problems that ails the west. Mark is now addressing the issue of Canada losing the security council vote which he thinks is not a big deal. That Canada had a bigger role in defeating Nazism and Fascism than France or China ever did.

Mark is now tackling the NASA's outreach to the Muslims around the world.

Will Canada in mid 21st century be like what it is today? Will we still like hockey? Immigration to the west and demography are now being touched by Mark.

Mark: Current debt is not sustainable. We're piling on debt. We need structural change.

Now an idiot (ironically an Iranian who might probably be a UWO student) is making himself look like a fool by asking an irrelevant question about the US invasion of Iraq. Get a life! - "Do you see a pattern here?" - Mark answered brilliantly again.

9:30 pm: The speech ended with Mark Steyn signing his popular books away for his fans.
