Pinochet

General Pinochet is dead and his country owes him gratitude for saving it from the reign of terror and communism. Yep, he killed a few but freedom ain't free.

But those who complain about Pinochet are always silent about commie dictators like Castro. How many were killed by this monster Castro in the past 50 years?

Mark Steyn says it all.

Are you joking??????? This is obsurd. Just because there are other dictators, it doesn't make Pino a good man... He is as bad as any other dictator...Dictator is a dictator, and they are all bad and against democacy. I cannot believe you said that!

Does it sound like a joke to you?

The man had the right idea as to what to do with radical leftists. And, when his work was done, he left on his own and restored democratic government.

Pinochet 'saved' Chile from a democratically elected government. Do I infer correctly from this that if the 'wrong' side won in, say, the US or Canada, you would support a coup (with all its attendant violations of civil liberties) to 'save' the country?

Killing people is against the Bible.

You know that don't you?

What an odd argument. Castro killed more than Pinochet, so Pinochet isn't so bad. Well Mao killed a helluva a lot more than Castro, so maybe Castro isn't so bad. And yes it does sound like a joke. Not a particularly funny one, but a joke nonetheless.

Gus,
It all depends on the cause you're fighting for.

Gus

Pinochet killed bad guys but Castro, Mao, Khomeini et al killed good guys.

Gen. Augusto Pinoceht was a nationalist who countered the threat towards his nation (Communism) with an iron fist.

The greater good of the nation was upheld. Today Chile is one of the more prosperous countries in S.A. thanks to the economic policies implemented during Gen. Pinochet's government.

RIP

Hey "Winston", how come other anonymous comments are getting through but not mine? Are you engaging in censorship? The type that you rightfully criticize the government of Iran for practicing? My other comment did not include any profanity, so that can be the only explanation. How very brave of you.

My question was: How is it that I am the "gutless coward" when you are the one writing under a pen name and agitating for more violence from the safe confines of canada? How is my posting as "anonymous" any different from you posting as "Winston"? Please, "Winston", explain this for me.

And if I thought there was a snowball's chance that you'd actually enlist, I would send you my name, my address, and a signed 8x10 photograph just to see how tough you are when you're sent into Sadr City. Of course, if you truly believed in your cause and in your words, you wouldn't need anything from me. You'd already be in basic training.

So, "Winston", go ahead and post this comment or don't post it. I really don't care.

I'm guessing it's cold comfort to the families of the Desaparecidos and the torture victims that he saved the country from a democratically elected Marxist. And apparently it's no big deal that his secret police carried out a bombing in this country that had as "collateral damage" a U.S. citizen.

My, my. Such uncivil discource? And I thought the Left were the ones who were supposed to 'care'. HA!

Dear Winston,
They probably do not know, nor do they care, that to reveal your identity would be a death sentences. They have never lived under those terms, so don't sweat it.

I am just learning about Pinochet. See, I am educating myself, because all I really know is what the Left and media (same thing) have been saying. I got sucked in to what they were saying.

One thing we must be sure to do is place everything into context. What time in history was this? What else in the world was happening? These questions also have to answered before we can judge a person. Hey, at least he did not own any slaves! Oh, but that would be taking things out of historical timelines...lol.

He was like a surgeon. He had to cut the belly to remove the tumor (communism). unfortunately Blood flows by every operation.
