Investment in Iran

A new American Enterprise Institute's project, "Global Investment in Iran: Interactive," documents major world business transactions with the Islamic regime of Iran between 2000 and 2007.

Canada included in the list with 4 major financial transactions, US is also there with 9, China with 27 and France with 66 major transactions. Incredible, isn't it?

Each penny invested in Iran will enable the Islamic regime to live one more day longer and prolongs the misery of milions of enslaved hostages the mullahs have kept inside that country since 1979...

I can't wait till someone will put the "oil for food" argument ;

seems at the times of 2000, there was a "moderate" government in place ; making business helps to open the borders, see how China is working well in that configuration

It's a terrible mistake for this to happen.

Nomad, are you saying that the "oil for food" program was good?

making business helps to open the borders, see how China is working well in that configuration

And is that US policy? To make things better for the regime in Iran? And here I thought the US has had unilateral sanctions on Iran since 1979!

I had thought you (France) were on the same side as the US when it comes to Iran, Nomad! I don't personally favor sanctions, in Iran or any place else, but for western powers to encourage foreign INVESTMENT in Iran seems insane.

What about your Country ?

US/Iran

Craig, I didn't see any policy of economical sanctions working well so far, it only hits the population, not the elite, and it improves hate towards your country (or mine).

the only sanction which would undermine Iran muhlacrathy, is arms sanctions, which France did since Komeyni returned to Iran, hey, I bet you could not find a contrary proof :lol:

Nomad, I think it was incredibly foolish for an American diplomat to formally meet an Iranian diplomat, after all this time. And the regime quite predictably took the opportunity to taunt the US instead of trying to get anything done. This isn't my only grievance against the Bush Administration. As you know.

The US has had unilateral sanctions on Iran since 1979. Which I support. After the seizure of the US embassy, the US can't (or more importantly, shouldn't) engage Iran in any way. That was an act of war, and until justice has been done the best relations between the US and the IRI can be is "hostile".

The sanctions I don't really support, are the UN sanctions. For the reasons that you listed. However, I do think Western Power have a moral obligation to try to limit this regime's access to money, and weapons.

I don't agree. What the IRI needs is money. Cash money. Money that is off the books. Money that they can use to buy friends, buy influence, and buy votes in the security council. And for 1000 other purposes. This is a pariah regime... without cash they can't function.

yeah, but this regime has already invested western compagnies or interprises, difficult to cut their money tap ; I mean they even are present in your country, kinds of lobby ! may-be the only sanction which caould manage results is to blocate their bank accounts ; welll, I am not a specialist, may-be it is possible
