Sarkozy

I'm really glad Sarkozy won the election. France needed such a strong person/leader who understands the stakes of our world.

And I liked what he said right after winning the French elections:

I want to launch an appeal to all those in the world who believe in the values of tolerance, freedom, democracy, humanism. To all those who are persecuted by tyranny and dictatorship, to all children around the world, to all women ill-treated in the world, I want to say that the pride and the duty of France will be to be on their side. France will not abandon women forced to wear the burka. France will not abandon women who do not have freedom. France will be on the side of oppressed peoples. It is Frances message, Frances identity, Frances history.

It's refreshing to hear these kind of things from France.

Indeed it is. Much better than Ms Royal who basically gave France's disaffected youth the green light to rebel in the streets if she didn't win. Damn socialists.

Hopefully the rest of Europe will follow.

My mother had a saying: "Talk's cheap. It takes money to buy whiskey." I'm sure France is already "on their side" but let's see them put their money where their mouth is. Perhaps like the Brits in Basra, the US can hang out in Shiraz while the French slug it out in Tehran. A nice war will solve France's unemployment problem don't you think? Only then will I believe France is really on anybody's side. It's the bacon and eggs metaphor. In a plate of bacon and eggs, the chicken is involved but the pig is committed. Will France be committed or involved?

Well stated by Sarkozy - lets hope he will live up to what he has said.

Victory for France.

I hope so but I fear a French Conservative is a different species than the Canoservatives we are accustomed to.

...yes but what about the rest of the speech?

Something about the US having to help combat Global Warming...

Talk is cheap.

discours de Nicholas

anyhow, don't wait Nicholas will do your politic, but France's politic, and therefore, the orientation already taken in De Gaulle's times will follow its path.

now I expect better relation with US, but don't think our president is going to help you finish Irak war, that was not and it not his agenda ; the war against international terrorism doesn't signify that we must have plenty of divisions abroad when special forces are the only efficaces ones and renseignements services, things our government did already in relation with US, but not dilvugued in medias, as we say : "secret service oblige !"
