U.S. Ambassador: Talks With Iran Were 'Successful' and 'Businesslike'

And I personally believe that president Bush, through holding these talks at ambassdor level, is just showing every one around the world that talking to the Iranian regime is meaningless and will not bear any fruit at all.

And probably laid some cards on the table about new defector's info about Iranian networks of s*-disturbers and subversion specialists in Iraq. And told him to stuff his offer of training Iraq's Army. What a bad joke that was!

None had believed that any level of intelligent communication would interest the culprits of the regime...

I will not forgive him for this. They are continuing to murder Iraqis and my people over in Iraq, and he's going to allow talks? I'm done with him.

These talks are augmented by the largest naval presence in the gulf since before the United States invaded Iraq.
The way I look at this is, "come to the table and let's figure our problems out because we are close to resorting to violence that I don't think Iran can withstand."

Quotes are hypothetical.

Anon 5:31,

On the other hand, Iran announced it was prosecuting three Iranian-American academics for "espionage" the day after the talks. I wonder what the Iranian diplomat wanted in order to free those 3 people and let them go home?

He obviously didn't get it. But at this point, if they are freed, I am going to wonder what the US did to make that happen. Not a happy situation when you try to "negotiate" with people who have a long history of using innocent hostages as bargaining chips. At this point, I'd like to see the US refuse those hostages entry into the US (if they are freed) until such time as the Iranian government explains it's actions. Publicly. On television. Why they took them and why they freed them. Because if the US allows Iran to benefit from taking these hostages, I'm going to start calling for impeaching Bush myself.
