Richard Perle on Bush's Iran Policy

"Why Did Bush Blink on Iran? (Ask Condi)" is the name of the recent article written by Mr. Richard Perle of AEI and former DoD official on Pres. Bush's policies on Iran.

I'd admit, too, that new policies of the US government towards the Iranian mullahcracy are truly disappointing and the prospect of any aid from Americans to help free Iran is growing dimmer. This is it and today BBC Persian conveyed a message from a US State Dept official saying that US gov't is not seeking a regime change in Iran but it is just concerned with human rights abuses in Iran. Isn't that silly and stupid?
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran knows what he wants: nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them; suppression of freedom at home and the spread of terrorism abroad; and the "shattering and fall of the ideology and thoughts of the liberal democratic systems."

President Bush, too, knows what he wants: an irreversible end to Iran's nuclear weapons program, the "expansion of freedom in all the world" and victory in the war on terrorism.

The State Department and its European counterparts know what they want: negotiations.
Well, let them negotiate and let them find out how their useless talks created a middle-eastern N. Korea.

Though the U.S would like to see regime change, it's not something we can announce that we have publc policy for. Especially while we're trying to get cooperation from Russia & China and are involved in this offer along with the EU.

Though it does seem like a waste of time, this diplomatic outreach is how things work. It's preparation for the future when you demonstrate to other countries, how far you bent over backwards to avoid conflict with another country.
It also allows us more time to prepare and make plans of our own.

I seem to remember reading recently, that Condi (or someone) advised Iran that they have until the end of June to give their answer. [why they didn't write a deadline date into the offer, is a mystery to me. That seems like a lesson from "Dealing with Iranian Regime 101" to me]
Today's the 27th, so time is almost up.

I wish we had more people like Perle in the Bush admin.

OMG. Is this the same as, "Let them eat cake"? I cannot believe this is happening. Maybe we are just looking from the outside-in? Let us pray so...
