Will They Kill?

It's been a while since I started thinking whether, in an event of war between the Iranian regime and the US, the US military would kill the high ranking clerics of the Iranian regime.

Why?

Well, the US government hesitated in killing a junior Iraqi thug called Muqtada Al-Sadr for the fear of insulting his followers or inciting a hate crime. Some thing to that effect... Let's put it this way: They were scared of following uprisings by his tiny minority of followers that they didn't kill him when the opportunity presented itself.

Therefore I am wondering if, in case of any real war, they would detain or kill Khamenei or other high ranking Shiite clerics of the regime.

What do you think?!

P.S: I am not implying that we should sit on our hands waiting for any external force to come in and free us. Not at all. I'm just asking a mere question on possibility. Thnx!

I am totally disappointed they way Bush administration is executing this war against Islamofascist. Although what they trying to acheive and say by the word of mouth is all sound and good but they repeatedly made ridiculous mistakes. Bringing back to power regressive Shiia thugs (Al sadr, Al hakim,..)whom most of them were trained and fed by iranian regime was another horrible mistake.(the enemy of your enemy is not necessarily your friend!)
So i really doubt if American would kill head of snake in case they attack iran.

I don't think it's really a good comparison. Sadr and Hakim (and others) were opposition figures in Saddam's Iraq. I think the US handled that situation poorly, particularly when Al Sadr began attacking US troops, but the situation is not the same.

If the US does go to war with teh Islamic Republic, I think we will try to kill Khamenei from the air in the early stages. Repeatedly. As we did try to hit Saddam during the invasion of Iraq. And the US will also target many other top-tier leaders. In the event of invasion, I'm sure that all those who have committed crimes (particularly crimes against the US) will be captured or killed, to the best of US ability to get that done. In the case of Iran there are MANY more people who have committed crimes against Americans in the last 29 years than in Iraq. There are thousands. And most of them will probably ( I hope) be extradited to the US to stand trial, rather than in Iran.

I can't think of a single reason why the US would want to keep any regime criminal around after an invasion. The real question is if the US will make deals with unsavory opposition figures in Iran, like we did in Iraq.

My suggestion to the United States comes from a western movie, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," -- "If you are going to shoot, shoot. If you are going to talk, talk."

If U.S. topples the Islamic Iranian Regime, i really don't care about what happens to the individual criminals in top tier iranian regime as they already become dead.
What is worrying me the most is that "deals with unsavory opposition figures in Iran" the same way U.S. did in Iraq and Afghanistan (and in the past with Taliban against Soviet)

Hi Azadah,

That worries me as well. It seems like we never learn, no matter how often we get bit in the ass by mistakes we made in the past.
