Christopher Hitchens

Christopher Hitchens has passed away. I often voiced my humble yet dissenting opinion here on this blog about pieces he'd written on Iran, Israel or other foreign policy issues. I liked his sense of resistance to tyranny and religious fascism. I am so sad about his passing and I can't believe it. You'd think bad things shouldn't happen to heroes and good men but it does. So very sad since last night.

My little blog was once honored by Christopher Hitchens on his old webpage during the Muhammed Cartoons controversy in March 2006. I emailed him a few photos I had taken during the pro-Denmark protests in Toronto and he graciously linked them on his website.

I am terribly sorry to hear about his passing and would like to send my sincere condolences to his family and friends. It is a crushing loss for the world...

Hi Winston, I visited your blog this morning looking to see if you said anything about this horrible passing and was very pleased to see this nice little tribute.

Hitchens was a hero, and the humanism and secular values he preached and practiced throughout his life has trumped anything practiced by the self-righteous theocrats he rallied against. He was a hero and will be duly missed and fondly remembered and will live on through his work.

Thank you so much for your kind words, I salute you for them.

Sure... I did not like some of his left wing views but I admired his steadfast resistance to the forces of ignorance, theocracy and dogma. I wish I could be more like him.

Yes, say what you want about his left wing views but he was never one to shy away from quarreling with the left wing camp, especially following 9/11, he didn't just tag along with the defeatist 'masochistic' rhetoric that became prevalent in the Left (the crowd etc.)

Yes I know exactly what you mean and feel the same way and admire what you're trying to do with regards to Iran, it's something I frequently write about myself and hope to actively campaign for in the future.

Dear Winston,

This is horrible news. I've been out of the news loop for about a year off and on, but this is very sad.

I agree that his opinions sometimes made me feel pulling my hair out, but not this. Thank you for your usual sweet, to the point, obituary.]

All the best.
