Disengagement

These days, I am bitterly discouraged and have lost my enthusiasm and sense of political engagement. I am disengaged and going to be in despair over what is really going on in this world.

Every one wants to talk to the mullahs of Iran, be it British Tony Blair or the infamous Americans' Iraq Study Group that is advising President Bush to open negotiations with the murderous mullahs of Iran...

When will these dumbass people realize that negotiations with murderers and religious fanatics is impossible?

Update 1: Congressional Democrats urge US-Iran talks

My Dear Friend,
It is so easy to get discouraged when dealing with the horrible atrocities that happen in Iran everyday. The key is to keep going on with what you are doing and remember that everything that you do makes a difference. Also hope is power, don't let anyone take that away from you.

Cheers

Sayeh

Winston, this is politics my friends. Listen sometimes you have got to talk to monsters. One by one let them sort Iraq out first then Mullah's time will come too. Don't worry ;) cheer up

Winston: Don't fret. The US and the Mullahs have agendas in the Middle East that are antithetical to each other. No amount of talking is going to change that. Even if the US gives them the security guarantees they covet so much, do you really think Iran will stop it's terrorist and interventionist policies in the region or it would stop building it's nuclear weapon? Knowing the duplicitous nature of the mullahs, we all know the answer is a resounding NO.

The US eventually has to protect her interest in the region and the longer they wait the more devestating the response and costlier the price in terms of life and limb for the Iranians and the Americans and in fact, the whole world.

Winston: I don't know if you get the discovery channel in Canada but Ted Koppel recently returned from Iran and calls Iran the "The Most Dangerous Nation". The dailykos blog is running a banner ad on it...Strange. Koppel's program is going to be on Nov.19th 9PM e/p.

It's frustrating as hell. But we still don't know what's going to happen yet.
I am reminded of this article by Michael Rubin

"Can Iran be Trusted?"

Things are often not as they seem. Frankly, I don't believe for a moment that what Blair and Bush are saying publicly is what is really going on behind the scenes. Something is going on in Russia right now, too. Take a look at Soldier's Dad's blog.

I don't know if any of you ever read his blog, but he's often got interpretations of events that I would never have thought of and that make perfect sense. In any case, his take on things seems to be from a seasoned military strategists perspective and he seems to think there is something going on. The media will never get it right, so I always take his hunches to be a lot more reliable than what appears on the evening news.

you forgot Efraim Halevy, who was Israel head of Mosad, who also suggested to talk to Iran.

Dear Winston,
I share in your disgust, but I have heard what PM Blair actually said. He did NOT agree to speak with Iran yet. He is pressuring them to the wall.

President Bush won't speak to Iran either. He has said they must get rid of all their nuclear programs in a verifiable way. You do remember how long it took before anyone did anything Iraq? I have an idea President Bush was diplomatic. He was also being sly. The press sucks, and we all know that.

One day I would like to travel to Iran, by myself, as a single middle aged woman and without fear of the religious police, clerics or Mullahs.

I would like to sit in a cafe in Tehran with my head uncovered and watch the street go by me while I sip coffee or sweet tea with the Shema hanging around my neck. Maybe I'll read. And when I tire of Iran perhaps I will return to Beirut and see what its like when its not under fire or in the grip of civil war. Anything has to be better than Beirut 1985/86.

What do you think Winston - is it a good dream? Is it a dream you can believe in? Or are you going to turn your back on dreams? Many don't want to believe that kind of simple dream is possible but I do. And even if my dream is not possible in my lifetime, there is always my daughter, and her daughter, G-d willing, and her daughter, and if need and G-d be willing, her daughter.

Because the way is hard and long does not mean it is time to stop working and dreaming.
